The running handicap

Every runner.
In the race.

RunCap gives every runner a personal target, so anyone can race anyone.

What is RunCap?

One number for how you're running right now.

Your RunCap is built from your recent runs and personal bests. It moves as you improve, hold steady, or take a break.

Two runners, one 5K

Their RunCap is a number: -8.0 is an 8% handicap, +12.0 is a 12% advantage. It sets their expected time for the race.

Sarah · RunCap +12.0

Their expected time based on their RunCap: 26:40

She ran 25:50 — 3.1% better ✦

Mike · RunCap -8.0

Their expected time based on their RunCap: 21:10

He ran 21:40 — 2.4% slower

Sarah wins. Mike is the faster runner, but Sarah ran further under her expected time.

How it works in a race

You race the clock you were given, not the runner next to you.
